Charity update and announcement

Charity update and announcement: Our May charity weekend was a great success, the highlight being Sunday with two RPGs, an escape room, a painting room and board games all happening at once! Thank you to everyone who ran games, played games and donated. Also huge thanks to everyone who helps share and comment on social media.

Our raffle stands at 53 prizes to be won and £1,240 raised. This is £50 short of our best fund-raising year ever and £80 short of £4000 raising during a pandemic! Please keep sharing the raffle. More donations unlock more prizes so your chance of winning stays the same. We still have a number of prizes to be added to the pool as well. Our current schedule is online only on the first Thursday and third Sunday of the month and every other Monday, plus lots of ad-hoc events organised by members and the committee.

Our next major event will be 3rd July (our 4th birthday as a club). Whether this is online or in person is yet to be decided. We are looking at when we can run a safe and fun in person meeting again. We will also keep running at least one online session a month. For now, we are going to support individuals in running smaller local events. Please create your own events on our Facebook page or Discord server. We can help you by loaning games from our lending library and helping advertise. Of course, regarding events in private homes, the host has the final say on guests etc.

We love seeing your ideas and want to empower you to organise stuff.

Now on to the announcement. Welsh Water has a community fund and due to our amazing community work has granted us £500, partly to continue to develop our lending library, which currently has over 200 games in it. However, the primary aim of the grant is to be able to run a fully accessible event. Free events and good accessible venues don’t go hand in hand unfortunately. Therefore, we will be hiring an accessible venue for our first major in person meeting, hopefully later this year (date to be confirmed). Entry will be free and always will be for our events if we can manage it, however we aren’t against accepting donations to cover club costs which may include subsidising future event hire.

We are currently researching venues and options and are open to suggestions.
